PH Acid-Base Balance:
- BLOOD PH HEALTHFUL RANGE = 7.36 TO 7.46
Blood ph is so important, that the body will sacrifice the calcium in the bones, to maintain the necessary blood ph. An increase or decrease of more than four tenths of a point in blood ph, will cause death.
- URINARY PH HEALTHFUL RANGE = 5.8 TO 6.8
The warmer the climate, as in southern California, the lower ( more acidic ) the ph will be. The purpose of checking the urine ph, is to find out if your body has a healthful store of minerals, that keep It's
internal environment, slightly alkaline. The minerals that contribute to your alkaline reserve are sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. The ultimate urine/saliva ph should be 6.4.
- SALIVA PH HEALTHFUL RANGE = 6.4 TO 6.8
Saliva ph values, are your guide to whether or not your body is overburdened, with emotional stress. While more acidic than blood, saliva ph mirrors what is occurring in the blood and is also a fairly good indicator of health, because it tells us what the body retains. It is also a fair indicator, of the health of extra cellular fluids, which is indicative of the alkaline mineral reserves. The ultimate urine/saliva ph should be 6.4.
- ALKALINE-FORMING FOODS
Foods, such as most vegetables and fruits, which are high in sodium, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium are alkaline-forming. when these elements are diminished, the system becomes acidic. The healthiest acid/alkaline balance in the body, is maintained by an optimum ratio, of 80% alkaline-forming foods and 20% acid-forming foods. When this ratio is maintained, there is a strong resistance against disease. When the body becomes more acidic, it becomes fertile ground, for acute and chronic disease.
- ACID-FORMING FOODS
Foods, such as meats, fish, poultry and grains are acid forming foods. These foods should make up about 20% of each meal, to keep an acid/alkaline balance.

Although it might seem that citrus fruits would have an acidifying effect on the body, the
citric acid they contain actually has an alkalinizing effect in the system.
Note that a food's acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the
actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products
they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so, lemons are alkaline forming
in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion, but it leaves very acidic residue
in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid forming.
There are several versions of the Acidic and Alkaline Food chart to be found in different books
and on the Internet. The following foods are sometimes attributed to the Acidic side of
the chart and sometimes to the Alkaline side. Remember, you don't
need to adhere strictly
to the Alkaline side of the chart, just make sure a good percentage of the foods you eat come
from that side.
The Following Could Be Classified As Acid Forming Or Alkaline Forming Foods:
Brazil Nuts | Brussel Sprouts | Buckwheat | Cashews | Chicken | Corn |
Cottage Cheese | Eggs | Flax Seeds | Green Tea | Herbal Tea | Honey |
Kombucha | Lima Beans | Maple Syrup | Nuts | Organic Milk (Unpasteurized) | Potatoes (White) |
Pumpkin Seeds | Quinoa | Sauerkraut | Soy Products | Sprouted Seeds | Squashes |
Sunflower Seeds | Tomatoes | Yogurt | | | |
